In 2025, France and Matthew Duffiney saved a 73-year-old man from drowning after the utility task vehicle he was driving broke through thin ice on the frozen Black River and sank 13 feet in Cheboygan. Zahren is wearing a “Gone Fishing” memorial bracelet honoring Carnegie Hero Ricky Lee Sneve, who died in 2021 while rescuing his 5-year-old sister from drowning in the Big Sioux River in Hudson, South Dakota.
