Robert Bruce Ogg saved John Rice from drowning, Gillespie, Illinois, June 4, 1931. John, 9, schoolboy, jumped from a diving board into deep water in the lake of the Gillespie Country Club and was submerged. He rose three feet from the diving board and threshed, bobbing up and down. From a point close to the bank, Robert, 9, schoolboy, waded and then swam 10 feet to John, and John grasped him from behind. Both were submerged. After struggling unsuccessfully to free himself, Robert sprang up to the surface and toward the bank and then swam a few feet toward wadable water. Again being submerged with John clinging to his shoulders, he again sprang to the surface and swam a few feet to wadable water, taking John with him.
