Roll of Honor vol. 1 available online

The Hero Fund is proud to announce that the first volume of its Roll of Honor is available to view online. The electronic PDF file mirrors the tome, published in 2020, that sits on display in the Fund’s Pittsburgh office.

In 1904, Andrew Carnegie outlined 10 directives in the Fund’s Deed of Trust, including that “a finely executed roll of heroes and heroines shall be kept displayed in the office at Pittsburgh.”

The Roll of Heroes and Heroines, Vol. 1,  finally and fully satisfies that requirement. It contains a short summary of every award the Hero Fund has made from its first group of heroes in 1905 through its 9,991st hero awarded in 2017. Vol. 2, comprised of hand-drawn entries and currently in rolling production, continues with Hero No. 9,992, and includes the Commission’s 10,00th award recognized in 2018.

The Fund also opted to publish the Vol. 1 book online as a PDF, which is perusable at https://www.carnegiehero.org/heroes/roll-of-honor/. There, users can search for individuals’ names or use the index that starts on page 98. The entire book can also be downloaded to a user’s personal computer for safekeeping.
