S. Rance Gregory, 26, farmer and well-digger, helped to rescue Thomas Ashcraft, 17, from a well cave-in, Tyler, Texas, April 16, 1912. (See case of WILLIAM G. WILLS.) Gregory reached the well while Wills was taking boards to the surface, and after a time he relieved Wills. While he was in the well he sent up kegs of sand, which he scooped up with a small shovel. After another man and Wills had taken turns in the well, Gregory was again lowered and worked about 20 minutes. 10474-838
