Henry W. Meyers died attempting to save Harriet Serre from drowning, Roundup, Montana, June 26, 1925. Harriet, 14, while wading in the Musselshell River with an inflated tire innertube around her, stepped into deep water and was quickly drawn into a swift eddy. Although she could swim, she could make no progress toward the bank, became frightened, and called out that she was drowning. Meyers, 44, laborer, who could not swim, waded into the river after another man, who was a good swimmer, had swum close to Harriet and then from fear of a struggle had returned to the bank. After wading 40 feet from the bank, Meyers extended a fishing rod to Harriet, and she caught hold of it and pulled him into the eddy. He was helpless and, after appearing at the surface twice, sank and was drowned. Harriet finally managed to swim out of the eddy to the bank. 25339-2022
