The Carnegie Hero Fund is pleased to announce the election of two new members at its Sept. 15 meeting.
Drew N. Peterson is vice president at the Sarah Scaife Foundation, a grant-making organization focusing on public policy programs. He also serves as an adjunct instructor at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Public and International Affairs. During more than 14 years in government, Peterson served at the Department of State, Department of Defense, and the White House’s National Security Council, working at the intersection of diplomacy, national security, economic policy, emerging technologies, and strategy, including designing curricula to train incoming U.S. Foreign Service members. He serves on governance or advisory boards for WQED Multimedia, the Pittsburgh Committee on Foreign Relations, and the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue. Holding degrees from Georgetown and Harvard, Peterson lives in Pittsburgh with his wife, Sunny, and their children.
Ngoc L. Thai is the founder, chief medical officer, and chief executive officer of Imagine Pharma, a biotech company focused on the development of a polypeptide to develop first-in-class programs addressing multiple disease states in large underserved markets. He also is a highly respected surgeon, specializing in liver, abdominal, kidney, and pancreas transplants. Thai also serves on the board of trustees of the Brother’s Brother Foundation, a world aid organization. With both a M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, Thai resides in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood with his wife, Barbara, and daughters Emma and Ally.
“Drew and Ngoc bring a wealth of experience, thoughtful leadership, and a strong commitment to service. Their perspectives will be valuable as the commission continues its work recognizing and supporting those who risk themselves for others,” said Michael A. Thompson, who chairs the Carnegie Hero Fund.
