William John Kinsman saved Raymond G. Murphy from an impending explosion, Mineral Point, Wisconsin, November 13, 1971. When his van, carrying dynamite, was involved in a collision, Murphy, 24, blasting technician, was knocked unconscious. Flames broke out around the vehicle’s engine and spread into the cab. Kinsman, 25, blasting technician, ran to the cab and opened the door. He extended his upper body into the vehicle, pulled Murphy from it, and took him to a field alongside the highway. Soon afterward, the dynamite in the burning van exploded. Kinsman was struck by a piece of debris. He recovered from his injury; and Murphy recovered from severe burns he had sustained.
