William J. Moses, 28, stave mill operator, saved Lena L. Moses, 9, from burning, Kingdon Springs, Arkansas, April 5, 1927. Lena was asleep in her home of one room when the house caught fire. Moses ran from his home to the front door of the burning house and saw Lena run to a door at the opposite side of the room. The flames were spreading rapidly, but he crossed the room to Lena. After he had tried in vain to open the door, he seized Lena and half-carried her out the front door. He turned to re-enter the house for other children but was prevented because the whole interior was in flames. One of Lena’s arms was severely burned, and Moses sustained serious burns, which disabled him for 11 weeks. 27215-2286
