William G. Micinilio, 23, shop truck operator, saved Ronald L. Campbell, 14, schoolboy, from drowning, Bridgeport, Connecticut, March 11, 1947. A rowboat in which Ronaldl was riding in Bridgeport Harbor was swamped and sank, and he was submerged several times in cold water seven feet deep. Micinilio ran 400 feet to the water line, waded, and swam 280 feet to Ronald, who was unconscious and beneath the surface. Micinilio raised him above the surface and towed him 240 feet. Tiring, Micinilio tried but could not stand and continued towing him 25 feet farther to wadable water. He waded supporting Ronald to within five feet of shore, where another man gave aid. Ronald was revived and recovered. Micinilio was severely chilled and numbed but recovered. 41007-3526
