Wayne R. Williams helped to save Gordon B. Barnholden from a possible fatal fall, Vancouver, British Columbia, September 3, 1975. While working on a bridge, Barnholden, 23, was caught in a steel cable, pulled over the side, and suspended upside down about 110 feet above the ground with the cable around one leg. Williams, 23, journeyman ironworker, stood on the wrecker ball of a crane and had the craneman move him to Barnholden. By careful maneuvering, Williams obtained a hold on Barnholden who, as the ball was raised, was lifted to an upright position, The cable then fell from the leg of Barnholden, who thereafter was supported by Williams as the craneman raised them safely onto the bridge.
