Walter R. Jensen, 41, machinist, died attempting to save Mary Bowmar, 20, from drowning, Kenosha, Wisconsin, July 1, 1917. Mrs. Bowmar and her husband and a young man were wading in Lake Michigan and were caught by the current opposite the mouth of the Pike River. The husband almost immediately sank and was drowned, but the young man gained a wadable point with the aid of a timber that came within his reach. Mrs. Bowmar floated and was carried 250 feet from shore by the current. Removing most of his clothing, Jensen entered the water and swam toward Mrs. Bowmar. As he approached her, he seized a small timber and pushed it to her, and he then sank and was drowned. Without making any visible effort to grasp the timber, Mrs. Bowmar also sank and was drowned. 18086-1345
