Wallace G. Johnson, 28, locomotive fireman, saved Tillie Levy, 81, from being killed by a train, Tacoma, Washington, February 7, 1946. Mrs. Levy, who was feeble and deaf, walked onto a track on which a train was approaching at a speed of nine m.p.h. Johnson ran out of the cab of the locomotive, down steps from the platform, and grasping a grab iron, he swung out and to the roadbed ahead of the locomotive. Running rapidly between the rails to Mrs. Levy, with one arm he swept her from her feet and carried her off the track, barely clearing the locomotive, which passed them. Neither Mrs. Levy nor Johnson was injured. 40650-3457
