W. Ennis Hedian saved Simeon N. Mallory from drowning, Ocean City, Maryland, August 19, 1931. While swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, Mallory, 52, assistant examiner, became unable to make progress toward shore and was carried by a current of 2 m.p.h. toward a jetty 200 feet from him. Hedian, 35, clerk, who was clothed, removed his shoes, ran a few feet through the water, and then swam 115 feet through rough surf and waves six feet high to Mallory, who was semiconscious. Holding Mallory, Hedian swam with great difficulty 115 feet across the current to water three feet deep and then with the aid of a lifeguard took Mallory to shore. Mallory was revived.
