Verlie H. Monroe, 50, farmer, helped to rescue James W., 63, and E. Ray Jordan, 19, plasterers, from burning, Maynardville, Tennessee, March 16, 1951. (See case of OTTIS D. HOUSTON.) James Jordan succumbed to his injuries two days after the act. Ray sustained severe head and body injuries and second-degree burns of the legs and lower body. He was hospitalized 46 days.
