Vaughn V. Longmire, 15, schoolboy, helped to save A. Lafayette Sharp, 15, from drowning, Lost Creek, Tennessee, June 21, 1908. Vaughn swam to Lafayette, who had become distressed while swimming in the Clinch River 35 feet from the bank. He took him halfway to the bank and was endeavoring to climb upon a submerged rock when Lafayette clasped him about the chest with both arms and wrapped his legs about him. They sank together and lost conscious-ness but were rescued by other boys and resuscitated. 3685-380
