Trisha Munroe helped rescue Will Munroe from an attacking dog, Windsor Junction, Nova Scotia, March 6, 2023. In the afternoon, Will, 8, and his 10-year-old brother were playing in the snow in 34-degree weather outside their house in a residential neighborhood when an adult male German shepherd came over to them and ultimately bit Will’s arms and thrashed him back and forth on the ground. Seeking help, the brother alerted Will’s mother, Munroe, 42, elementary school teacher, who left the family’s house barefoot and in pajamas and went to the nearby cul-de-sac, where Will was on the ground and the dog had one of his arms in its mouth. Munroe sat on the dog and put her hands in its mouth, attempting to free Will, whose eldest brother, 13, also responded outside. The older brother punched the head of the dog, which released Will, who then moved to safety in his driveway. The dog then bit Munroe’s right arm. The older brother again struck the dog, which then bit Munroe’s left arm, leading the brother to punch it again until it released Munroe’s arm. An owner who had been on scene then led the dog back home. Will, who also had injuries to his head and face, was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was treated for punctures to his right forearm and left bicep. Munroe was treated at the same hospital for the bites to her arms and a bite to her right hand, while Will’s older brother recovered from a sore hand in a few days.
