Timothy W. Pfautsch attempted to save Harold G. Schenk from drowning, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, June 23, 1969. Schenk, 39, mechanical engineer, who had entered turbulent water below a dam in a creek to aid a man trapped in a reverse current, also became caught and began spinning head over heels in the deep water. Timothy, 17, groundskeeper, made his way through wadable water atop the dam to opposite Schenk. He was washed off the dam into the turbulent water, where he tried to secure a hold on Schenk but was unable to do so because of the latter’s somersaulting. Feeling himself being pulled by the current, Timothy managed to grasp the edge of the dam; and he then called for help. A man went to the aid of Timothy, who moved to meet him. Together they reached shallow water and then waded to the bank. Schenk drowned.
