Theodore W. Kiehlbauch rescued Christien A. Remin from burning, Edmonton, Alberta, February 19, 1973. In the shop of a service station, fumes from a spilled solvent resulted in an explosion and fire. Remin, 29, service station attendant who was alone in the shop, was knocked down and, unable to move, was almost overcome by smoke from burning tires and other items. Kiehlbauch, 49, well driller, broke out a pane of glass at the bottom of the shop door and crawled inside . where flames and heat were increasing. Unable to see in the dense smoke, he followed the weak cries of Remin and found him 25 feet from the door within three feet of the flames. Kiehlbauch had some difficulty breathing as he dragged Remin to the door. After pushing Remin through the opening, Kiehlbauch emerged, badly nauseated. Remin recovered from burns he had sustained.
