Terry Holbein rescued Andrew I. Rome from assault, Shirley, Massachusetts, August 8, 1994. Rome, 40, a police officer, was being attacked by a man he was attempting to arrest, in the lot of a car dealership. An employee of the dealership, Holbein, 27, automobile reconditioner, witnessed the scuffle and approached. He grasped the assailant but was thrown to the pavement. The assailant and Rome then went to the ground, Rome’s gun falling from its holster. They struggled for control of the gun, which the assailant grasped. Holbein leaned over the assailant and pinned his arm to the ground. Rome secured the gun, then, with assistance from Holbein, handcuffed the assailant. Rome sustained contusions and scrapes, from which he recovered. Holbein recovered from scrapes to his knees and elbows.
