Terence McGee died attempting to save residents of a group home from burning, Brooklyn, New York, October 25, 1989. A houseparent in a group home for teen-aged boys, McGee, 27, was in the home late at night when fire broke out in the basement. McGee, the residents, and the other house- parents all escaped safely, McGee and others through the front door. Before all of the residents were accounted for, McGee re-entered the house and was heard calling them by name as fire conditions worsened. Arriving firefighters found him on the first floor. He died of smoke inhalation.
