Sylvester A. Mahan, 17, machinist’s apprentice, saved Cecilia Zacnewski from being run over by a train, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, July 28, 1912. Cecilia, 3, crawled on a track on which a passenger train was approaching, and Mahan’s attention was attracted to her. He ran 60 feet, grabbed her, and got off the track two or three feet ahead of the train, which passed him at a speed of 25 m.p.h. 9063-1102
