Sharon Lee Miller saved Donald A. Stevens from drowning, Columbus, Ohio, December 6, 1978. To aid Donald, 8, Mrs. Miller, 35, jumped into the cold water of a swimming pool, the bottom of which was covered with slippery sediment. She located Donald, who was submerged, but could not lift him to the surface in the deep water. Although a poor swimmer, Mrs. Miller proceeded 15 feet to wadable water and then was able to raise Donald, who was inert. Men arrived as Mrs. Miller, feeling tired and numb, waded to steps at the end of the pool. The men took Donald from Mrs. Miller, who also was aided out of the water. Donald recovered.
