Sharon J. Dean rescued a woman from assault, Columbus, Georgia, November 17, 1995. A 31-year-old woman was in the parking lot of a supermarket when a man armed with a handgun approached and, threatening to shoot, demanded her money. Ms. Dean, 36, cashier, had just parked her vehicle in the lot opposite the woman’s car when she saw the assault. Leaving her vehicle, she shouted at the assailant to let the woman alone. Distracted, the assailant turned from the woman and shot Ms. Dean, then fled. Ms. Dean was hospitalized 12 days for treatment of a gunshot wound to her abdomen and related injury.
