Scott Krueger died helping to save Verna T. Krueger from assault, Ulster Park, New York, August 25, 1989. Mrs. Krueger, 60, fled into the garage of her son’s house after arguing in the driveway with a man who then pursued her with a loaded shotgun. Having witnessed the argument from nearby, another son, Scott, 19, construction laborer, stepped into the enraged man’s path and stopped, facing him, to block his course. The man shot Scott in the upper chest, felling him. Mrs. Krueger’s other son restrained the man after a struggle, during which the gun fired again and injured Mrs. Krueger. She and Scott were taken to the hospital, where Scott was pronounced dead within the hour. Mrs. Krueger recovered from an injury to her hand.
