Saul Ortiz Marquez died helping save his 8-year-old son from drowning, Fort Worth, Texas, May 13, 2020. The boy was on the bank of the West Fork of the Trinity River when he slipped into a tributary stream and was carried into a river. Marquez, 28, laborer and the boy’s father, entered the river, swam to the boy, and grasped him. Marquez, in deep water, held the boy above the water and attempted to swim toward the bank, but was unable to make progress. A woman entered the river, took the boy from Marquez, and returned him to the bank with assistance. Marquez was pulled beneath the surface of the water by a strong current. Divers located and removed Marquez from the river about an hour later. The boy was not injured, but Marquez drowned.

Saul Ortiz Marquez, 28, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 13, 2020 in Fort Worth, TX. He is survived by his father, Saul Ortiz, Sr.; his mother, Margarita Ortiz; sons, Diego and Mateo Ortiz; sisters, Nathali and Ruby Ortiz. He will be deeply missed by many family and friends. Rest in Peace.
