Salvatore Silvestri died attempting to save Jerome A. Giroux from drowning, Toronto, Ontario, August 2, 1986. While on a cruise at night, Giroux, 24, fell from a chartered boat into Lake Ontario. Silvestri, 36, the boat’s captain, was alerted and, fully-clothed, immediately jumped into the water after him. One of the other passengers also entered the water, swam to Giroux with a life ring, and took Giroux back to the boat. Silvestri, who had submerged, was later recovered from the lake’s bottom. He had drowned.
