Ronny C. Odom died attempting to save Percy Cummings from suffocation, St. Augustine, Florida, May 31, 1989. Cummings, 29, collapsed while working in an underground pump station when the station began to flood with sewage. From street level, his co-worker, Odom, 40, laborer, called for help, then immediately descended into the station for Cummings. He grasped Cummings but then also was overcome, and he collapsed. Both men were removed from the station by rescue personnel, but neither could be revived.

Ronny Clifford Odom, 40, of Metter, Ga., died on May 31, 1989, at the Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, Fla., after an industrial acccident. The Tattnall County, Ga., native had also lived in Evans and Candler counties.
He was a construction worker with Satilla Industrial Contractors, Inc. in Waycross, Ga., and a member of Candler County Young Farmers. He was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church.
Odom was buried in Lake Cemetery.
