Roger Lindsay saved David Triplett from drowning, Isleta, New Mexico, May 7, 1990. Triplett, 37, attempted to swim across Sunrise Lake but began to struggle midway. He yelled for help. Fishing nearby from the bank, Lindsay, 30, chef, was alerted to Triplett’s plight. Although he had not swum for several years, following an accident which resulted in a leg being amputated below the knee, Lindsay, wearing a prosthesis, dived into the lake and swam about 150 feet to Triplett, who had by then submerged. Lindsay pulled Triplett to the surface of the water and began to swim back to the bank, towing him. He tired en route, his prosthetic leg pulling him down, and began to struggle. When he reached the bank, others pulled Triplett out of the water. He was revived and taken to the hospital for treatment.
