Robert John Pilger, attempted to rescue Henry Muraski and David L. Loberg from burning, Beaumont, Pennsylvania, May 19, 1979. Muraski, 56, and Loberg, 35, were unconscious inside a burning van that had overturned onto its side in a ditch. Pilger, 22, bindery apprentice, crawled into the limited space under the man and tried to remove Muraski. Another man joined Pilger at the van. While that man was removing Muraski, Pilger went to the front of the van, where Loberg was afire and was pinned by the steering wheel. Pilger tried in vain to free Loberg but was forced to retreat because of worsening conditions. Loberg died in the flames.
