Robert John Jameson rescued Pamela A. Barber from assault, Bordentown, New Jersey, April 15, 1988. Aboard a bus, Miss Barber, 31, was stabbed in the neck by a man wielding a steak knife. Witnessing the attack from his seat nearby, another passenger, Jameson, 35, legislative staff assistant, grabbed the assailant and, in an ensuing struggle, forced him to drop the knife. When the attacker then pursued and began to beat Miss Barber, who was attempting to flee, Jameson followed. He picked the assailant up and threw him to the floor. Jameson held him there until police arrived shortly and arrested him. Miss Barber was hospitalized for her injuries. Jameson was treated for an injured knee, and he recovered.
