Robert Burton Henry, 27, automobile repairman, attempted to save Myrna A. Townsend, 21, from drowning, Ocean City, Maryland, August 14, 1922. Miss Townsend and a male companion were carried by a current into deep water in the Atlantic Ocean, and they called for help as they were carried farther from shore. Henry swam from wadable water 120 feet to Miss Townsend, whose companion left her upon seeing Henry’s approach and swam to shore. Henry took hold of Miss Townsend and attempted to swim with her, but they gradually drifted to a point 250 feet from shore. A lifeguard then reached them with a life ring. Miss Townsend was drawn to shore on it as the guard swam with her, and Henry, after a brief rest holding to the ring, swam to wadable water with great effort. 22740-1867
