Robert B. Grubbs saved David A., Glenn H., and Judy M. Rhone from burning, Douglasville, Georgia, July 15, 1987. After a highway accident, David, two months old, and his cousin, Glenn, 10 months, were trapped in a burning car that had been driven by David’s mother, Mrs. Rhone, 33. Although he was involved in the same accident, Grubbs, 38, insurance sales manager, ran to the burning car and removed David through the opened driver’s window. Despite flames on the rear of the car, Grubbs then entered it and attempted to remove Glenn, who was secured in a car seat. Grubbs succeeded in removing Glenn through a side window and carried him away. Returning to the burning car, Grubbs assisted Mrs. Rhone out shortly before the car was engulfed in flames. Mrs. Rhone and the boys required hospital treatment for their injuries.
