Richard X. Hughes, 42, laborer, saved John R. Owens, 36, from an explosion, Bangor, Pennsylvania, October 17, 1904. Hughes ran from behind a shelter in a slate quarry, in the face of a blast (the fuse being lighted), picked up Owens, who was blinded by burning powder, and near a precipice, and carried him to safety.
