Richard Charles Grant died attempting to save Berry D. Peguese from drowning, Leamington, Ontario, June 26, 1987. Peguese was the sole occupant of a canoe that apparently overturned, spilling him into a pond where he was seen struggling. From a nearby point on the bank of the pond, Grant, 33, laborer, entered the water and swam about 15 feet to Peguese. They struggled and submerged. A man who had been on the bank with Grant then entered the pond; he too struggled with Peguese but was able to take him to the bank. Grant drowned.
