Richard A. Philibert rescued Jason S. Rowland from assault, Manchester, New Hampshire, September 6, 1992. Rowland, 21, was working behind the counter of a donut shop when a man approached and began to stab him. Philibert, 44, forklift operator, had just entered the shop when the assault began. He approached the counter and threw a napkin dispenser at the assailant, then mounted the counter and threw another object at him, but the assailant was not distracted. Philibert jumped to the floor behind the counter, charged the assailant, and took him to the floor, which enabled Rowland to flee. Philibert held the assailant to the floor until police arrived and disarmed and arrested him. Rowland was hospitalized a week for treatment of multiple stab wounds. Philibert sustained a sore shoulder, from which he recovered.
