Reynard Chumley died attempting to save Jacqueline T. Faggau from drowning, San Francisco, California, March 30, 1983. Jacqueline, 14, lost her footing while wading in McLaren Park Reservoir and was moved into deep water. Chumley, 34, partially disabled, entered the water fully clothed and swam about 20 feet to Jacqueline. Following a struggle during which he was submerged briefly several times, Chumley disappeared under water. Jacqueline was removed from the reservoir by a policeman and taken to the hospital, where she died two days later. Chumley’s body was recovered later that day.
