Reese C. James saved Mary M. Griffith, 19, and Edith E. Jarvis, 15, from drowning, Lynn Haven, Florida, July 4, 1913. The young women, who were fair swimmers, became distressed in water eight feet deep, 200 feet from the shore of St. Andrews Bay and went beneath the surface once or twice while struggling to reach shore. Reese, 12, schoolboy, who weighed considerably less than either young woman, waded 150 feet from shore and swam to Miss Griffith. No other person was near. Reese swam 50 feet with Miss Griffith, left her in wadable water, and swam about 60 feet to Edith. She was frantic. He grasped one of her arms and pulled her after him as he swam to wadable water. 11411-1018
