Ray V. Vincent, 23, coal miner, saved James A. Bolin, 22, teamster, and others from drowning, Athens, Ohio, March 14, 1907. Vincent twice rowed a half-mile in a small boat in the floodwaters of the Hocking River to a house that stood in a 12-m.p.h. current, with water almost to the second story. He took three men from the house on each trip, rowing them among trees and bushes and across the current to land.
