Rawley W. Martin, 12, schoolboy, attempted to save Edward A. Wheeler, Jr., 10, from drowning, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, July 29, 1928. While Edward was wading in the Atlantic Ocean, he got beyond his depth and drifted farther from the shore. From wadable water Rawley swam 20 feet to him, grasped his arm, and tried to swim toward the shore but could make no progress. He got behind Edward and tried to push him. Finally he turned on his back and floated and supported Edward. They drifted out to a point 150 feet from shore. Rawley again took hold of Edward and tried to swim, but about that time he was relieved of Edward by a man who swam to them. Rawley then swam more than 75 feet to wadable water alone.
