Ralph T. MacCulloch, 16, student, saved Lester E. Lauder, 26, civil engineer, from drowning, Old Orchard, Maine, August 5, 1914. (See case of CHARLES L. COLLINS.) Lauder was the companion of Miss Fraser. Ralph accompanied Collins from shore and swam 50 feet to Lauder. He grasped Lauder under his right arm with his right hand, swam toward shore with him, and touched bottom, but they were immediately swept farther from shore. Ralph continued to hold Lauder and to swim toward shore until the boat reached them. He was about to assist Lauder to take hold of the boat when it capsized. Later Ralph took hold of the boat on the opposite side from Collins and aided Lauder to take hold of it. They clung to the boat while it drifted to wadable water. Lauder grasped Ralph during the act, and there was a struggle, but Ralph broke Lauder’s hold. Lauder was exhausted but was not seriously affected. Ralph was fatigued. 13843-1505
