Ralph Joseph McBride, 21, refrigeration repairman, died attempting to save Loretta E. Price, 9, from drowning, Brighton, Michigan, January 27, 1947. Loretta broke through ice on Ore Lake into water 18 feet deep 30 feet from the bank. McBride ran 185 feet on the ice to the hole, which was 10 feet in diameter, lay prone at the edge of the ice, and reached toward Loretta. The ice broke under him, and he fell into the water. He grasped Loretta with both hands, and she tried to climb upon him. Both were submerged and did not reappear. 40956-3520
