Ralph D. Myers, 16, schoolboy, saved Hazel Timmons, 17, from drowning, Effingham, South Carolina, August 9, 1928. While wading in the Lynches River, Hazel got into deep water 40 feet from the bank. Ralph also got into deep water unexpectedly and was grabbed by Hazel, but he got away from her. Ralph then took hold of Hazel and with great exertion swam and drifted 130 feet with her to wadable water. Ralph was exhausted. 28623-2351
