Percy E. Morrell, 26, manager, attempted to save Charles W. Lane, 23, real estate dealer, from being run over by a train, New York, New York, January 7, 1910. Jumping from the platform down onto the track in front of an approaching subway train, Morrell grabbed Lane, who, stunned, lay on the track. He leaped off the track into a narrow space under the overhanging platform, dragging Lane with him, and had him almost off the track when the train, running 18 m.p.h., reached them. Lane’s foot was caught, and he was pulled from Morrell’s grasp. His right leg was amputated and his thigh fractured, but he recovered. Morrell escaped unhurt. 4709-577
