Paul G. Fredrick attempted to save Walter T. Madigan from drowning, Dollar Settlement, Michigan, August 28, 1933. (See case of WALTER T. MADIGAN.) From wadable water Fredrick, 26, laborer, swam 100 feet to Madigan and with great effort swam and towed Madigan 75 feet toward shore. Both were repeatedly submerged by waves. Fredrick then was becoming winded, and he had Madigan take hold of the stick. He dived twice to regain hold of Madigan, and when Madigan slipped from his hold, Fredrick felt too weak to dive again. 34221-2816
