Oscar R. Miles died attempting to save Minnie E. Bauman from being run over by a train, Amsterdam, New York, January 26, 1914. Miss Bauman, 52, approached a track on which a train was approaching at a speed of 45 m.p.h., and she apparently did not see the train. As she stepped on the track, Miles, 38, crossing watchman, ran eight feet from a place of safety, with his arm extended to push or pull her off the track. The train struck and killed them both. 12522-1059
