Oscar Lewis Hume, 17, student, attempted to save William L. Anderson, 17, student, from drowning, Paris, Kentucky, September 5, 1926. William entered rough water below a dam in Stoner Creek and was carried by a counter current to the dam and submerged by the overflow. He rose but was unable to swim in the turbulent water. Oscar, who was almost fully clothed, jumped from an abutment of the dam into the water and tried to swim to him. Oscar was unable to make progress in the rough water and was carried to and from the overflow repeatedly. Finally a rope was lowered to him, and he was drawn out. William was drowned. 26928-2313
