Ollie J. Hightower

Ollie J. Hightower helped to save Glenn F. Iacono from burning, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, October 23, 1987. Iacono, 29, was trapped inside his car after it was struck by a tractor-trailer which then caught fire. After witnessing the accident, Hightower, 39, service manager, ran to the car and, despite flames on both the car and the nearby tractor-trailer, jumped onto the car’s hood. He began to kick the windshield of the car and, joined shortly by another man, was able to create an opening through which Iacono began to climb out. Grasping Iacono under his arms, Hightower and the other man pulled him from the car shortly before it was engulfed by flame. Iacono was hospitalized for his injuries.
