Newton W. Joyce, 53, crossing watchman, died attempting to save James M. Rose, 54, switchman, and Louise Potts, 54, from being run over by a train, Cincinnati, Ohio, January 22, 1912. (See case of JAMES M. ROSE.) Joyce was 20 feet from Rose and Mrs. Potts when they fell, and, although crippled somewhat by rheumatism, he ran toward them. Before he could reach them, he was struck by the locomotive and rolled 30 feet. He was taken to a hospital and died two hours later. 7909-628
