Nancy J. Grimsley, 44, housewife, died attempting to save Lois S. Anderson, 17, from drowning, Graysville, Tennessee, September 5, 1921. While she was wading in Roaring Creek, Lois stepped into deep water about 15 feet from the bank. Mrs. Grimsley, who was dressed and was unable to swim, waded toward Lois, got into deep water, and struggled with her. They sank together, and Mrs. Grimsley walked a step or two on the bottom, holding Lois’s head above the surface. She then released her hold, they became separated, and Mrs. Grimsley was drowned.
