Nancy Daniel attempted to rescue Taylor Daniel and saved Aubree Daniel and Arianna Daniel from assault, Levittown, Pennsylvania, March 16, 2024. In the morning, Taylor, 25, called 911 to report that her former partner, 26, had arrived at her family’s one-story house with a semi-automatic rifle and was forcing his way inside by breaking through a door. While on the phone, Taylor told her mother, Daniel, 61, food service worker, that the assailant was outside with a gun and that she should lock herself inside her own bedroom. Taylor guided her two girls, Aubree, 5, and Arianna, 3, into the bedroom she shared with them; the girls hid beneath bed covers. After the assailant broke into the house, he moved into Taylor’s bedroom, where he shot her multiple times. Hearing silence after earlier screaming, Daniel left her bedroom and entered the hallway, where she saw the assailant leaning over Taylor on the floor. Daniel moved into the kitchen – toward the door the assailant broke open – and grabbed an axe handle that she kept in the house for protection. Rather than fleeing the house, Daniel moved into Taylor’s bedroom and struck the assailant’s head and back with the axe handle. The assailant, who was about a foot taller than Daniel, turned and, using the butt of the gun, repeatedly struck Daniel in the head, causing a deep wound to her scalp and a cut to her face. The assailant then left the house and fled to a neighboring state, where police arrested him hours later. Shortly before arriving at the Daniel house, he also fatally shot his stepmother and his 13-year-old sister. Taylor died at the scene. Daniel was treated at a hospital emergency room, receiving six staples to close the largest wound, which was on her scalp.
